Hartlepool is about 95 miles north of our Retford office, on the coast at the top of the Tees Valley. We install solar panels and batteries across the town, from the Headland to Seaton Carew.

One in three Hartlepool households (32.9%) lives in a terraced house, according to the 2021 Census. That's well above England's 23%.
Terraces have smaller roofs, but they can still take a useful system. The Energy Saving Trust's rough guide is around four panels on a mid-terrace and eight on an end-terrace. The back of the house is often the better side: a rear slope or a back extension may face closer to south than the front.
The Headland sits out on a point above the harbour and the North Sea, and Seaton Carew faces straight out to it. Exposed roofs take more wind than sheltered inland ones.
MCS installation rules require structural and wind-loading checks for every system, and we take particular care on exposed coastal roofs.
The technical survey checks the condition of the roof covering and the fixings before anything is fitted.
Panels must stay a set distance back from the roof edges, which on a small terraced roof affects how many fit.
Hartlepool Borough Council runs its own scheme, Warm Homes Hartlepool, funded by the government's Warm Homes: Local Grant. It offers free measures, including solar panels and solar battery storage, to eligible households. Eligibility is set nationally: broadly an EPC of D to G, and household income of £36,000 or less or a means-tested benefit.
If you qualify, apply through the council.
If you don't, we'll quote: our solar and battery systems start from £7,500 fully installed (10 panels, a Fox ESS battery and scaffolding to one side), or from £4,995 for solar panels on their own, and home solar and batteries are 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
Hartlepool Borough Council handles planning. For most houses, roof panels don't need planning permission. The town has eight conservation areas: the Headland, Church Street, Grange, Park, Stranton, Seaton, Elwick and Greatham. In those, panels can't go on a wall, balcony or roof enclosure facing the road, and flat-roof panels need prior approval. Listed buildings always need consent.
Hartlepool is one of the furthest towns we cover, and the job is the same as anywhere: a free consultation, by phone or at your home, a written quote with no pressure, and installation by our scaffolders, roofers and electricians. Northern Powergrid runs the local network, and we handle the paperwork.

Yes, for eligible households. Warm Homes Hartlepool offers free measures including solar panels and battery storage, funded by the government's Warm Homes: Local Grant.
Usually, yes. A mid-terrace can often take around four panels and an end-terrace about eight. The rear slope is often the best spot.
The Headland is a conservation area, so panels can't go on walls or roof enclosures facing the road and flat-roof panels need prior approval. Panels on a pitched roof are usually still allowed. Listed buildings need consent.
Yes. It's about 95 miles from our office and about 80 from Doncaster, well inside the 100 miles round Doncaster that we cover. In the North East that takes in Teesside, Darlington, County Durham and Sunderland.
