We're a Nottinghamshire business, based about 27 miles north of Nottingham in Retford. We install solar panels and batteries for homes across the city and the county.
Nottingham has everything from Victorian terraces to new-build estates. Roof size and direction decide how many panels fit and where, so your quote is based on your roof, not a standard package.
Nottingham has more terraces and flats than England as a whole. In the 2021 Census, 27.4% of households lived in a terraced house and 23.6% in flats and similar homes, against 23.0% and 22.2% nationally, though semis were still the most common, at 33.3%.

When we checked in October 2026, Nottingham City Council wasn't on the government's list of councils with Warm Homes: Local Grant funding, though Gedling, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe take part through the Midlands Net Zero Hub. If you live in one of those boroughs, the grant can pay for measures including solar PV for households on lower incomes or means-tested benefits in homes rated EPC D to G.
Prices, payback and export payments are much the same across England, so rather than repeat them on every area page, we've written them up once:
What solar panels cost, by system size, and how to compare quotes
Whether solar panels are worth it, with payback figures
Solar panel grants and who qualifies
Battery storage, including adding a battery to existing panels
We're about 27 miles away in Retford. Being further from our office doesn't change how we work. We start with a free consultation, by phone or at your home in Nottingham, then send a written quote with the full price. If you go ahead, an independent technical surveyor checks the details, then most homes are fitted in a day, and we notify the network operator and send your handover pack afterwards.
What happens on installation day, step by step.
Homes inside the city boundary come under Nottingham City Council for planning, and the surrounding boroughs, such as Gedling, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe, have their own planning teams. The city has 33 conservation areas, including The Park and the Lace Market, and some streets, such as Devonshire Promenade in New Lenton, have Article 4 directions. Most houses don't need planning permission for rooftop panels, and we check yours before we quote.
The national rules changed on 27 August 2026: planning permission for solar panels has the current limits.
National Grid Electricity Distribution runs the local electricity network. Most home systems only need notifying after they're switched on; bigger ones need approval first. We handle both.

Yes. We're based in Retford, about 27 miles away, and install solar panels and batteries for homeowners across Nottingham.
We didn't find one for the city itself: when we checked in October 2026, Nottingham City Council wasn't on the government's Warm Homes: Local Grant list. Gedling, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe do take part, through the Midlands Net Zero Hub, and home solar panels and batteries are 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
Usually not for a house. Listed buildings need consent, and some installations in conservation areas need permission or prior approval. Nottingham City Council handles planning for most of Nottingham, and we check the position for your address before we quote.
