Costs, savings and help with the price in Derby

Derby City Council announced £1.6 million of Warm Homes: Local Grant funding in November 2025, to be spent over three years through the Midlands Net Zero Hub. It's for lower-income households in privately owned homes rated EPC D to G, solar panels are among the improvements it lists, and the council has appointed YES Energy Solutions, a not-for-profit, to deliver it.

Prices, payback and export payments are much the same across England, so rather than repeat them on every area page, we've written them up once:

We're about 35 miles away in Retford. Being further from our office doesn't change how we work. We start with a free consultation, by phone or at your home in Derby, then send a written quote with the full price. If you go ahead, an independent technical surveyor checks the details, then most homes are fitted in a day, and we notify the network operator and send your handover pack afterwards.

Planning permission in Derby

Derby City Council handles planning in the city. It has designated 16 conservation areas, including the City Centre, Friar Gate, Darley Abbey and Mickleover, and homes in them or listed buildings have tighter rules. Most other houses don't need permission for rooftop panels, and we check yours before we quote.

The national rules changed on 27 August 2026: planning permission for solar panels has the current limits.

16 conservation areas designated by Derby City Council, including

  • City Centre
  • Friar Gate
  • Darley Abbey
  • Mickleover

National Grid Electricity Distribution runs the local electricity network. Most home systems only need notifying after they're switched on; bigger ones need approval first. We handle both.

Solar panels in Derby: questions people ask

Do you install solar panels in Derby?

Yes. We're based in Retford, about 35 miles away, and install solar panels and batteries for homeowners across Derby.

Is there a solar panel grant in Derby?

Possibly. Derby City Council's Warm Homes: Local Grant lists solar panels among the improvements for lower-income households in privately owned homes rated EPC D to G, and YES Energy Solutions delivers it for the council.

Usually not for a house. Listed buildings need consent, and some installations in conservation areas need permission or prior approval. Derby City Council handles planning for most of Derby, and we check the position for your address before we quote.
