DoncasterAbout 16 miles north-west of our office in Retford
Doncaster is about 16 miles north-west of our Retford office, the closest city we cover. Home visits and installs here are a short drive for our team.
Doncaster covers a wide area, from the city centre out to villages and new-build estates. Whatever the house, we check the same things: which way the roof faces and what shades it before we quote, then its condition and your fuse board at the technical survey.
Semis are Doncaster's most common home. In the 2021 Census, 45.5% of households lived in a semi-detached house and 24.1% in a detached one, against 31.5% and 22.9% across England. On a semi, panels usually go on whichever main slope faces closest to south.
City of Doncaster Council has £1,604,111 from the government's Warm Homes: Local Grant. Nationally, the grant can pay for measures including solar PV for households on lower incomes or means-tested benefits in homes rated EPC D to G, but each council chooses what it offers, so ask Doncaster's which improvements are available. You apply through GOV.UK.
Prices, payback and export payments are much the same across England, so rather than repeat them on every area page, we've written them up once:

We're about 16 miles away in Retford. It's a short drive for our team. We start with a free consultation, by phone or at your home in Doncaster, then send a written quote with the full price. If you go ahead, an independent technical surveyor checks the details, then most homes are fitted in a day, and we notify the network operator and send your handover pack afterwards.
What happens on installation day, step by step.
City of Doncaster Council handles planning. Most houses don't need permission for rooftop solar panels, but the council has 46 conservation areas, from High Street, Market Place and South Parade in the city centre to places such as Sprotbrough and Conisbrough. Homes in them and listed buildings have tighter rules, and we check this before we quote.
The national rules changed on 27 August 2026: planning permission for solar panels has the current limits.
Northern Powergrid runs the local electricity network. Most home systems only need notifying after they're switched on; bigger ones need approval first. We handle both.

Our panels were installed less than a week after placing order, and were up and running by the following morning.

They all cleaned up after themselves and left my property as it was found.

Not once did James try and force us in to making a decision.
Yes. We're based in Retford, about 16 miles away, and install solar panels and batteries for homeowners across Doncaster.
For some households. City of Doncaster Council has Warm Homes: Local Grant funding for lower-income homes rated EPC D to G, and solar PV is one of the measures the grant can pay for, so ask the council what it offers. Everyone else pays for solar themselves, with 0% VAT on home solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027.
Usually not for a house. Listed buildings need consent, and some installations in conservation areas need permission or prior approval. City of Doncaster Council handles planning for most of Doncaster, and we check the position for your address before we quote.
Figures and rules on this page were checked on 11 October 2026. Schemes, tariffs and prices change, so check the latest before you decide.
