Terraced houses are the most common home in Coventry: in the 2021 Census, 40% of the city's households lived in one, well above the 23% for England, and 30% lived in a semi. A terrace roof is smaller, but it can still take a worthwhile system, and your quote shows what fits.
When we checked in October 2026, Coventry City Council was working with E.ON and Act on Energy on a Warm Homes: Local Grant for eligible homeowners and private renters in Hillfields, Upper Stoke and Lower Stoke, with solar panels among the possible improvements. The council says eligible households won't have to pay anything.
Where it applied when we checked
Prices, payback and export payments are much the same across England, so rather than repeat them on every area page, we've written them up once:
What solar panels cost, by system size, and how to compare quotes
Whether solar panels are worth it, with payback figures
Solar panel grants and who qualifies
Battery storage, including adding a battery to existing panels
We're about 67 miles away in Retford. Being further from our office doesn't change how we work. We start with a free consultation, by phone or at your home in Coventry, then send a written quote with the full price. If you go ahead, an independent technical surveyor checks the details, then most homes are fitted in a day, and we notify the network operator and send your handover pack afterwards.
What happens on installation day, step by step.
Most houses in Coventry don't need planning permission for roof panels. The exceptions are listed buildings and Coventry's 19 conservation areas, which include Earlsdon, Kenilworth Road, Spon Street, Chapelfields, Allesley Village and Hawkesbury Junction. Coventry City Council handles planning, and we check your address before we quote.
Conservation areas the council names
National Grid Electricity Distribution runs the local electricity network. Most home systems only need notifying after they're switched on; bigger ones need approval first. We handle both.
The national rules changed on 27 August 2026: planning permission for solar panels has the current limits.
